For anyone preparing for surgery .......THINK ABOUT USING YOUR OWN BONE......MY surgeon didn't even give me the opportunity to ask , he just told me they use donor bone.......I MADE THE DECISION TO USE MY OWN.....

HE started telling me the graft site would hurt more than the neck site (HE IS RIGHT ) BUT I have pain meds........it takes longer to get around.......

BUT IT IS WORTH IT......a friend of mine came by to see me , she told me she was glad I used my own bone....a friend of hers had a bone graft 8 months ago .......last week she got a letter from the donor bank telling her - her donor bone had not been tested!!!! What would you do ..............

USE YOUR OWN BONE,,,,,,,, more painful maybe, more comfort of mind.

Well I had donor bone instead of hip bone. My mother had a bone fusion on her lower back 14 years ago and they used both till this day she still has pain in her hip. The same surgeon did my ACDF 2 weeks ago. I will get a faster fusion with the donor bone and is safer for me with my young age. But thanks for sharing that info. I say it is no different then some day needs skin graph, kindey etc.

I used donor bone and am happy with the decision I made. I am not the least bit concerned with any diseases at all. Part of that is the answers I got from the surgeon and PA in regards to the company they got the bone from.

Everyone is different and what may be right for one patient may not be for another. I also feel it is a highly personal decision as well.
