MRI-Results

Hi all, well got my MRI results:
small left paracentral disc herniation at C4-5. This is in the region of the proximal portion of the left C5 nerve root. Correate with any clinical evedence of the left C5 radiculopathy.

Anterior fusion of C5 to C7. Residual bony neural forminal encroachment amongst other mumbo jumbo they had written. Plus I have lower back pain!!

OK well I had fusion C5-c7 8 months ago. Dont know what this means. I dont know if I had this BEFORE my surgery or is this AFTER the car accident 2 weeks ago??

I see the doc next week, and I guess I will find out then.

Feel good all!!!

Re: MRI-Results

Are you wondering if the accident caused the C4-5 stuff? I also had a C5-7 and now have the C4-5 issue. What are your symptoms?

Re: MRI-Results

Really??
OK Symptoms:
Pain in back of head either shooting pain or like a headache type of pain at times. Mostly on left side. Sometimes in the center back of head.
Frontal headaches
Pain in left arm, sometimes shooting sometimes in a general area as well as wrist pain on and off (a couple bouts of discomfort and pain in hand, that has gotten better.)
Have also had some bouts with tingling and numbness on and of.f. (does seem to be getting better!! )
Pain in center of back and pain in bottom of back
Had soreness and slight pain in Jaw
This all started again AFTER the accident. I was doing real good there after PT. Also have felt some pain in right arm but nothing like I will deal with left arm.
Pain in buttocks and leggs on and off.

What about you?? What symptoms are you getting and what is going on with c4-c5 with you??
Did you have fusion c5-c7?? If so how long??

Sorry if you mentioned it in the past, I seem to forget alot

Re: MRI-Results

Oh God, you poor thing, djl.
I had my fusion C5-C7 in Jan. so I am 7 months out. Before my surgery C4-5 was an issue, but apparently they didn't think it should be fused. Frankly, I am glad they didnt rush into giving me a 3 level rather than a 2 level. Actually, I felt pretty good and had done PT since end of Feb. I went on a trip to NYC and DC and had to pull alot of heavy luggage (dumb), and also went in lunatic cab rides. I would be doing my neck stretches on my trip and when i would do the ear to shoulder one, on the right side....I literally got stuck where I couldnt get my head back! I quit doing them and all the rest of the neck stuff. It seems to aggravate things. I am tired of aggravating the neck over and over and over. I know you understand THAT. My main symptoms are deep shoulder blade (scapula) pain, middle back pain, and a bit of shoulder pain on the left side. I am praying it doesnt get worse. I used to have really bad trapezius tightness for the last 5 years, but that seems to have improved. Its still there , but better. Now it all had moved downward.
I wonder how much of your pain is also muscle and ligament pain, like a whiplash kind of thing. This neck stuff never ends, does it?

Re: MRI-Results

You Guys are making me scared!!!

No it is all very interesting because I have some similar feelings in my neck and shoulder and sometimes deep in the scapular and subscapular region.

I was in PT for my arm and I started to get really tight in the Trapizius from PT. I actually have had on and off muscle soreness on that side of my body.

I suffered from 3 years of disuse of that left arm for 3 years and the 4 surgeries.

But ever since the accident I get this feeling of ....I guess numb or tingly tiight feeling from my jaw all the way down the side of my neck into the shoulder and the scapula.

Not sure what all that is about because the MRI just says that the discs are bulging at C3-4 through C5-6 and that they are slighly left sided and no nerve or cord stuff going on.

So I am a bit confused. I guess I gotta wait to see what that Neur doc says.

I actually put a call into the GP to see if I could up the amount of anti-inflamatory because it seems to wear off, and try a different muscle relaxer.

I am so sorry sammy that you have all these things going on! I am thinking of you and saying a prayer for you as well....Chrissy

Re: MRI-Results

Hi Guys
Sorry I havent written back. Alot going on lately.

Well, when I went in for PT on friday, saw one on the theropists that kniow my hystory. The first thing she said to me was that your are now herniated c4 to c5? She said once they got the report she looked at it. So then she checked out my old MRI report from prior to surgery. C4-C5 was originaly bulged. Now do the the accident it is herniated. NOT HAPPY.

She said that the doc will probably have me go for further tests including a nerve damage test. I hope it is not that EMG.. had that before and god hate it !! I wanted to drink a whole bottle of wine after that !!

I guess I really wont know what is going on till I see the doc on Wed. I go for theropy and injections early monday mornig.

I cant lie..I am scared. I dont want to have to go for another surgery again . That is all that is on my mind. I am just hoping that theropy is the answer and not getting cut open again.

God I wish this accident never happened. I am so frustrated.
I feel like this is putting me into a depression. Then there is the lower back and the middle of my back that bothers me.UGH!!!!

Well enough about me, how are you guys doing?? How are you all feeling?? Any good news about all of your conditions??

Much Love
Debbie

Re: MRI-Results

Hey Debbie,

Been wondering about you!!!

I am glad that you finally posted. Really sorry to hear about the discs that are now herniated!!!

In fact I just asked a question in a differnt post about having a bulging disc. After my accident I had the MRI and it shows that there are bulging discs from C3-4 through C5-6 and I was wondering just how suseptable those suckers are? Can doing daily activities cause them to herniate?? The report says that they are not touching the spinal cord and not impinging any nerves but I have the fims and in one picture it looks really close to my spinal cord.

I am just way to youg for this. I am in Limbo waiting to see Neuro doc but in the meantime my neck never stops with the dang spasms. I have constant tingly sensation and deep pain in my shoulderblade and scapula area. Who Knows!!!
I can't take the narcotic pain meds because they just block up my digestive system to much and I have had to call the GP to have stronger muscle relaxers.

Besides all that I am just taking it easy trying not to over due it.

I am glad that you get to see the Doc on Wed. I have to wait untill September the 7th to see the neuro..UGH!!!
Anyway I am glad to see you are hanging in there!!!
Chrissy

Re: MRI-Results

Hi, I am new here. I got up one morning a couple months ago getting ready for work and noticed my left arm hurt. I thought for a few days that I had slept on it wrong. Then it continued to get worse and waking me through the night, I went to the doctor Aug. 2nd. She said there is something going on but nothing to do with sleeping on my arm wrong.
She scheduled me for an MRI & x-rays Fri. Aug. 10th. She called me Mon. Aug 13 and stated I have a buling disc @ C5 & C6 pushing against a nerve, have a tear in the left shoulder cuff tendant and a ulnar never problem. Boy when I get a problem I get it all. Anyway went to a orth.ped surg. today. They are working on the shoulder first. I never had any injuries. Just wear and tear. I was injected with a cort. shot ( I hate needles and it hurt) and was put on Oxaprozin taking 2 pills once per day for two weeks. My shoulder hurt more after the shot until I took the medication. At this time it feels better but can feel a little pain. The ulnar nerve feels like pulled muscules. We are hoping the medication and exercises will heel the shoulder without surgery then the others will be worked on depending which is the most painful. Has anyone had any bad experiences with the medication Oxaprozin? It has some pretty drastic side effects. Also the tingeling in the left neck area, I am not sure if it is ferom the shoulder or the bulging disc. I didn't even realize I had a spinal or shoulder problem. I thought I was having some sort of muscle problems going on.

Re: MRI-Results

Hi there djl,

How are you doing??? Are you getting used to the lyrica?? Is it helping any? I just could not tolerate it but I hope you are getting some relief with the combonation that you are using now. I am also on Meloxicam (Mobic)

I am hanging in there but pretty concerned because of the pain an I had a really bad day of pinching and I think it flarred up the nerves that are already damaged from the arm injuries. I am still waiting to see the Neuro in Sept.
I even had to take some narcotic pain meds yesturday.

I hope you are feeling better!!

Donna I am sorry to hear that you to are not feeling well. Everyone here has been so supportive of me and they are very understanding. I jope you find this board as helpful as I have. Welcome!!!
Chrissy

Re: MRI-Results

Hey hrissy

I am still on the Lyrica and as Melexicam as well. That was the anti-inflammitory that my GP presscribed to me the day after the accident.

I am tolerating the Lyrica better now.
Saw the specialist and now I can actualy feel the pin in my left arm when she tested me !! YES !! I had no feeling whith the pin test after the saccident.
I still have to go through theropy in my neck as well as my lower back now. I am realy tight there too.

So, I pretty much live at rehab. I still have pain. This morning was tough, pain going down to my pinky finger and a stiff lower back.
I guess it just takes time.

I hope you start feeling better.

Re: MRI-Results

Hey There..

I am glad that the Lyrica is working for you!!!

As for me today was a better day and for the first half of the day I rested and went to the store. I did take a walk this morning.

Then I hosed out the back patio and watered the yard.

I am a bit sore but I will be up early because I have to go to have a CT scan of my abdomen in the morning and I won't be able to eat past a certain time and I want to be up early enough to have my coffee and a small bite to eat.

The CT scan os for a Mass on my liver. Long story about how I found out about it, but my doc ordered the scan when I went to see him on wed. The GP also said he can't really help any more with my neck because it is out of his expertise. So I am hanging in there and trying to focus on the daily tasks at hand.

I know what it is like to live in rehab so to speak!!! For the past 3 years it seems I hae had to fill my calendar with doc appointments for my arm, pain management....PT...Tests...surgeries.

Now that that has come to an end it got replaced with the neck issues.

Despite everything going on you sound in good spirts and to be honest I am too. Yes the pain drags me down some days, but I am happy and I do have a good life.
I am also grateful to share with all of you guys...so thanks for sharring and supporting me.
Chrissy
