Popping sound in my neck 8 weeks post ACDF/Corpectomy

Hi everyone

Has anyone experienced popping sounds in their neck when you move neck side to side?

I was feeling this sensation before my surgery and after my surgery it had gone away. Yesterday I was exercising my neck to work on my ROM and started hearing the popping again.

Is this something that I should report to my doctor? I have an appt. with him on Tuesday to check me out after my fall a week and a half ago.

Hope everyone is enjoying a healthful holiday season.

mll

Hi Mll, I had a 4 level with corpectomy end of Aug. I had the hard Aspen collar, and survived. And YES, I have the popping sound now all the time when I move my neck from side to side. My last visit with the doctor, I told him about it, and he said this is normal...why I don't know, but I should have pressed him more. I really didn't have much of that before the operation, but now, wow, what a funny sound and feeling... Oh well, I guess we are ok. He didn't seem concerned at all... Good luck, Janatee

Hi Janatee

Thanks for your reply. I did tell my doctor about it and he didn't seem to concerned about it. Said that it is normal.

It is the weirdest sound though. Not llike popping in the bones, like when I have a pop in my fingers, ankles or knees. This feels more like it's in the muscles off to the side of my neck not in the middle of the back of my neck. It's crazy.

Happy Holidays,

mll

Lots of us have had it. I have it and sometimes still get it after 15 months after surgery. My dr. was not concerned about it either, said it was "normal." Its got something to do with gases and ligaments or something. It certainly is a funny feeling - sometimes my husband can hear it. Sounds like you are doing well! GOod luck.

Same here, had a laminectomy and later an ACDF and I snap, crackle and pop more than a rice krispy treat! I think some might be from scar tissue as we do PT and some is "air pressure" build up and some is bone on bone (ddd).
