I have had heel and underfoot pain invesitaged for more than two years and have now been told that the cause is probably due to a cyst on my spine causing entrapment of sciatic nerve. However it is too risky an operation to remove cyst so the only therapy is for physio to give me exercises to do at home. I am 65 years old with cereballar ataxia so exercises have to be limited due to my lack of balance.
I had cyst drawn from my breast sometime ago and cannot understand why it should be so risky to draw from this spinal one. thank you for your attention. Regards, Patsy

Did they do a MRI and Ct to diagnose the Cyst? I had a friend who had a cyst on her spine as well. She took a very long time before she went to the doctor. She is only in her lower 30's and was a avid soccer player. She now cannot feel her legs or feet. She has learned to walk on them and to tie her shoes and such but cannot play soccer any longer. It is a very risky surgery but it is risky not to have it as well.

thanks for your response - yes I have had MRI of lumbar spine and had follow up appoinbtment at the spinal clinic. they recommended foot x-ray which has revealed nothing. my next appointment at the spinal clinic is 26 Feb. Patsy

Patsy what kind of foot pain is it? After my spine was compressed I was having bad foot pain in my right foot and it turned out to be Mortons Neuroma. I have had one shot and need a series of 2 or three more to kill that nerve. The pain I have is in my little toe and the one next to it and the pad of the foot. I didn't feel it and nothing showed on xray but the foot doctor could feel it right away. I also have foot pain in the mornings or if i walk to long or sit to long.
