ESIs sheduled, but been sick, should I still attempt to go? - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Hi everyone,
I have ESIs scheduled for the thoracic on Sept, 4. I realize that is thursday is a few days off, but I have been really hit hard with some virus.
This is the second week I have had it. I ran a fever for several days, nasty sore throat & slept more then I remember in along time. I still am sleeping alot & this has went into alot of congestion. I am assuming that the steroids used for the ESIs can effect your immune system like the oral form of steroids, of course I could be wrong.
Now I could be better by thursday but I have no guarentee. I would really like to get them over with but I am not sure if I should have it done after being this sick for this length of time. Of course I plan on asking the surgical center tues. but thought I would run it by all of you.

When I decided to have the same thing done.. I was really sick as well. I had to put it off until my cough went away because you can't move during the procedure. By the time I went in I was feeling better. Usually the cough is the last thing to go away. I am not sure if you have just the other symptoms what they will say. Definatly call the doctor tomorrow. Better to be safe than sorry.

I would put it off until you current symptoms subside. Partially becuase you'd want to be able to distinguish any side effects from ESI from what you have now. They will tell you at the ESI to call your doctor if you have symptoms like fever, etc, and many of the symptoms you now have can also result from ESI (not common but it can occur).

Hi everyone, nurse called to give me my procedure time, she pretty much said come in & see what they think. If I were to cancel I would have to wait practically an entire month. I really dont want that. I am in a huge amount of pain most days & want to see if we can make some changes it these ESIs dont help out. So I will go with what they say. I am so upset, the thoracic is scheduled & the cervical is causing me so much pain, more then I have ever had. Hurts so move my neck & all kinds of snap, crackle & popping going on.
I am bringing it up & hoping he will do some cervical. I am tired of this every month. Its noones fault, most certainly not the doctors but I just cant see letting the neck pain go while trying to tackle the thoracic. Last set was cervical & did not notice any change. Some of my fingers are so painful.
I really think he will have to move up some on the cervical. Please with me luck, I could sure use some. God bless & thank you for taking the time out for me, Sammy
