24 hours post op ACDF

Well, I am now 24 hours post op and feeling pretty good. The headaches are gone and over 50% of the arm pain is gone already. I was home within 6 hours of the time the surgery was over with no collar and my 1st pair of stockings to keep the blood circulating in my legs. My neck is sore as is my throat. However. overall, I feel much better than I did yesterday at this time.

The doctor said the disc was difficult to remove, but the rest of the surgery went well. I was told I could probably drive in a week or so and my return date to work is 3 weeks from today.

I know there will be ups and downs, but if anyone asks me if I would recommend surgery, I would say have it if you want to get your life back.

Rob

Re: 24 hours post op ACDF

Rob,

Thank you sooooo much for posting so close after surgery.

I have less then a month before mine now and have been so worried because people were saying far longer times then my surgeon was telling me for recovery and driving and what to expect immediately afterwards. You are being told the same as I and the fact that you are doing as well as you are gives me hope. May you be blessed with a continued good outcome.

thank you!:

Judi

Re: 24 hours post op ACDF

I was wondering how it went & I am glad to hear good news. I am surprised at how quickly you can resume your driving & work. Every surgery is different along with the recovery & that is what we have to keep in mind. Sometimes surgeons get in there & find more problems, then there is the length of time to consider that one may have lived with this injury. I am sure other things factor in to determine the outcome & recovery. I felt pretty decent for awhile after surgery to. I sometimes wonder if the anasthesia has anything to do with this, does it stay in our system for a certain length of time, you know. Just be careful & do what you can to ensure your continued success.
I hope you continue to come back & let us know how your doing, its good for people still to go through surgery to hear the success stories. God bless & take care, Sammy

Re: 24 hours post op ACDF

Now it is 48 hours and things remain the same. I am trying to reduce from 2 pain pills each time to 1. I hate the way I feel on oxycodone. Throat is still real sore, almost like strep throat, and my neck is sore/stiff. The good part is still no headache and no shooting arm pains today. I plan on relaxing as much as possible today and maybe trying to walk around the block tomorrow.

Thanks for all the well wishes and I will keep all updated as much as possible over the next couple of weeks.

Rob

Re: 24 hours post op ACDF

Day 3 went well, except that I over did it. I walkes 1 mile in the morning and went out to dinner in the evening. I am paying for it right now. Pain and tightness between the shoulders is worse now that is has been yet. Looks like I am in for a day of mostly rest today.
