Please be careful if you go outside! There are a number of people around here who had surgery and then took a fall on ice/snow and it slowed them down.
It is pretty common to feel those spasms for a couple weeks after surgery. SOme people are lucky and don't get them, some get them for months. Take good care of yourself, I bet you will notice the medication use slow down in a few more days. Warm heat works good on the spasms - sometimes icing helps, you just need to experiment on what works for you.
Hey, I am 6 days post-op from acdf 4/5 and 5/6 and can tell you I am still having shoulder blade pain as well as upper back arm pain and sometimes as you mentioned, elbow pain. just talked over the phone with my docs assistant and they told me that this is normal and can go on for the next few weeks. I am feeling better it seems everyday in regards to strength and getting around but that shoulder blade pain will not let up. I have to pretty much stay planted in my recliner with the heating pad on. Hope you feel better soon
Hi Jamie,
I had the surgery in PA, last week when we got the snow, and I am still in alot of pain. My doctor didnt give me any clear restriciton on what i should or should not do either. Since i only had the one level fusion he said i didnt need a collar. The pain that was in my biceps prior to the surgery, went away. But i have pain across the back of my shoulders and the back of my neck.. I miss the morphine too which was the only thing that helped me with the pain so far. But i was sent home with percocet and flexeril, and I hate the side effects of the percocet, unless someone wants to sleep their life away. I hope are symptoms resolve with time. Estella
