Re: Is there a Surgery?

Hi Marla, yes there is hope.

The spinal stenosis, (caused by the bulging disc or discs) is usually a disc that is encroaching or pushing on your spinal cord. The usual treatment is to remove the disc that is in between the two vertebrae and put a spacer in where the disc was and fuse the two vertebrae together. That gets the disc off of the cord and nerves. It is called spinal fusion.

If you want more detailed info. you could always post your mri results here. There are some very experienced people here.

Did you get a referral to see a surgeon?

Any more questions or info post away. Take care

Re: Is there a Surgery?

Yes, there are a variety of spinal surgeries for conditions such as you mention. The actual surgery type would be based on the findings, symptoms, and the neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine surgeon choosing the best approach.

I had an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) for the disc problems and later had Later I had to have a posterior foraminotomy to relieve further stenosis. (though often this can all be done in one surgery)

Re: Is there a Surgery?

Have you done something about the incontinence problem? Did the doctor find this problem and now you are researching what to do? Does anyone know what has been happening? Or is this problem not an issue now? Just I thought that if they found some dangerous nerve compression they would operate immediately. Maybe the surgeon doesn't think it is that bad. I hope you get the treatment you need. Allan
