Problems after 2nd ACDF. Now what???

In March of 2009 I had ACDF at c6-7. I felt good most of May then the symptoms came back. Arm numbness and pain, facial numbness, headaches. X-ray in June showed that the donor bone was dissolving. Finally had another ACDF in October 2009 with BMP. Felt good through most of December and now everything is coming back again. CT scan shows no sign of fusion, even with BMP. Current surgeon referred me to Dept Chair at major University to seek further treatment. Now I have no idea what to expect. I know I had problems at c5-6 and possibly 1 other level. Not sure I am ready for 3rd surgery in a year but not sure I can handle the way I feel much longer. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

You will be better off going there I'm sure, they will have the newest and best treatments, the techs are moving at a fast pace so it does matter in harder cases like yours.

I think one of most problem doctors have, is to admit they are lost and send you to a expert, all to often they wait to long so it's a good thing.

You should feel good about it and not worry, till you are seen there and talked to the doctor about it, they will give you your options and of course, you should ask what they think would work best and go from there.

I find reading up on the problem ahead of time, and then talking to my doctor about it in a informed way, really helps to the point of making a well informed choice together. Believe it or not most doctors really seem to enjoy, talking about a problem if it's with some one that is well informed on it.
