Hi there. I just was involved in an auto accident. For the past 2 months, Ive been doing PT and have not had a single bit of relief. Im also working thru this- 60+ hours a week, going to Grad School and on top of it all suffer from having Multiple Scerlosis.....Im under the care of a Neuro, who referred me to a ortho Surgeon.
Upon seeing me, he ordered a MRi, which is what sent me to PT, this not having made any difference besides complicating my already complicated life, I had another one. The new results state:
At C5-C6 there is mild degenerative disc buldging and osteophytic ridging, slight asymmetric to the left.
At C4-C5, there is diffuse degenerative disc buldging and osteophytic ridging with central canal stensosis and foraminal narrowing, left greater then right.
At C3-C4 a central disc hernation is again seen, thereis mild central canal stensois but no evidence of foraminal narrowing.
Every other part of the Cspine is normal.
Now, since I also have 25+ lesions on my spine from MS, the Neuros concern is the spinal column in general. My biggest concern is pain! Ive been living on Aleve and Motrin- taking Flexeril PRN at night for pain/ sleep. My Ortho surgeon doesnt see Surgery as an option - which thrills me, but also doesnt have a clue why the pain is so severe. He is pushing it towards MS pain, which my neuro disagrees with. I have had severe numbness in my left hand and fingers for 3 years, made worse by this accident. No one is taking me seriously, both blaming the pain on the opposite diagnosis.
im now being told to see a pain specialist, who MIGHT be able to do an epidural type injection...time will tell and we shall see if my insurance allows this. PT was a complete waste of time. 4-5 times a week, 1 hour a day took up more time then I have to spare! With absolutely NO results, and increased pain, Im wondering what went wrong. Heat is out for me (MS makes you heat sensitive) Ice works for ten minutes and no longer...Im open to any suggestions.
I realize this MRI report isnt horrible.....but it also isnt conclusive as to why the pain is so horrible in my neck/ shouler area. It also cant confirm if the numbness is Cspine related, or if they are right and its "just another MS thing" which I have to learn to live with...

Ask your doctor about starting on lyrica its not a narcotic and it does help with pain that can be caused from nerves and since your spinal cord is likely the cause of your pain i would atleast ask and give it a try to see if it is good for you. It changed my life thats all i can say hope this helps since no one has commented =)
Pixie, I appreciate the fact that you took the time to comment. Thank you. Unfortunately, Lyrica is one of the drugs Ive been on for a very long time- they use it allot for MS pain. Its done absolutely Nothing for me and Ive been up to almost 2000 mgs a day. At this point, my Neurologist has suggested we start weaning off it. It was a good suggestion though. Im often on the MS board and Ive learned that both Lyrica and other "nerve" drugs, work differently on people who have MS, which is a autoimmune disease which affects the Central Nervous System. For most of us, we have absolutely no relief from it. Just another one of those "things" I have to deal with.
Again though, thanks for taking the time to suggest anything. Its most appreciated.
