| Numbness ... Better than Pain?
Hello, I'm a first time poster in this board, but have been around for a few months as I have quite a few health issues.
I have a large numb patch on my back between my shoulder blades (about 8-10 inches wide). I've had what was described as "diminished sensation" there before where I could still feel something, but this morning raking my nails down that section of my back I felt nothing at all (I had felt a stinging sensation). An MRI last May showed all my discs were bulging one way or the other, and most with broken off osteophyte material, some bulging in towards my spine. My rheumatologist said that one in my thoracic spine in particular, I think T9/10, may need surgery to release it because my lungs could collapse.
Does anyone think this total numbness could be pointing to this disc needing surgical intervention? I see my rheumy next Friday but this is really worrisome and I'd appreciate if anyone has any advice. Thanks very much.
