Major thoracic revision on 28 May - terrified
I found this board so useful when I was going through my ACDF (which worked wonderfully BTW) and I was wondering if there was anyone else having thoracic surgery in the next little while?
I have to have a revision of my T8/9 partial fusion because my right nerve is reimpinged. It's a very risky surgery because of scar tissue and the fact that there is also some cord signal loss. There is an 8% chance of paraplegia and a 15% chance of major complications such as blood loss to the cord etc. If I wasn't in so much agony there is no way that I would do this but my life isn't worth living at the moment.
Has anyone else had a thoracic op that's been revised? Thoracic surgery is so dodgy anyway and my first surgery was a total stuff up - the surgeon left floating disc and bone and my nerve pain has basically changed my life. I've still got a list of scans to have to make this as safe as possible and I've had my MRIs reviewed by two other neurosurgeons to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thankfully this surgeon is much better than the first one I saw and his wife and I are good friends - my mum helped her through a stroke she had during a medical procedure.
I am really just looking for any advice that can be thrown my way, thank you for any responses or support...I've had some major surgeries in my time (including the removal of a large liver tumour) but I've never felt this apprehensive before.
