I live in London, and have been diagnosed with cervical spondylosis/stenosis, am seeing, rheumatologist, neurologist and ENT people. This problem has been with me for a few years now, but most recently I seem to be suffering with dizziness and loss of balance. Is it my neck or is it my sinuses (that I have also had lots of problems with). Does anyone else relate to this. Thanx very much. Mary.
I'm a newbie around here, but I have a severe herniated disc in C5,6 with severe cervical spinal stenosis in that area. The neurosurgeon did some tests on me for balance due to the compression of the spinal cord. Apparently, if my eyes were closed, I was suppose to sway or fall. The same with some of the other things he had me do. My results weren't significantly positive so i was relieved to know that my spinal cord was not as damaged as it could have been.
Prior to the end of Sept, I do not recall any major symptoms. But now it feels like my hands are swollen, and when I walk it feels like there is a rubber band inside of me. I just got my surgery date today of April 12th so i'm getting myself prepared for that.
I have no idea where your symptoms are coming from. I hope you can find some answers.
Wow! I could've written your post myself! I had a herniated disc at C5-6 with nerve root compression, and mild cord deformity. I also had osteophyte(bone spur) foraminal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal). I was also experiencing dizziness, etc. And, I too, have had sinus problems for years, in fact, I had sinus surgery last Feb. 2001.(and he did 3 separate surgeries--- ethmoidectomy, septoplasty, and something else I can't remember the name of right now...) SO, before I had my neck surgery I was being treated for sinus infections, had another CT scan of my sinuses (and polyps were found), but I had an ENG test, that came back normal, thus ruling out Meniere's and BPPV...Anyway, had minimally invasive discectomy last month(Feb. 5), but my ears started plugging up on me again. I used antibiotic ear drops, took antibiotics, etc. But, then I just noticed that I have a lump behind my right ear, and a pressure problem within my head. So, I had a CT done the other night, and apparently it looked okay, but my ENT said it sounds like a lymph node or something, and that my eustachian tubes were being closed off. So, I go in next Thursday to see. I'm just praying I can get this taken care of asap, because I've been dealing with this problem since last October, and nobody could figure out what was wrong with me, but all 4 neurosurgeons I saw said they didn't think it could be from the herniated disc. Now, if I just would've felt this lump before maybe (?) I could've had this ear problem taken care of before now. Because I had the neck surgery last month, but I am still waiting to feel like myself again without the ear problem...SO, I don't know what advice to offer you, except maybe you, too, have polyps in your sinuses affecting your ears, or a swollen lymph node...I wish you all the best luck in finding a diagnosis. I totally sympathize!!! Good luck! Lizzie
P.S. I hope this made sense...I just re-read what I wrote and I was all over the place!
Mary, I have also recntly been diagonosed with cervical spondylosis. I have had it for many years with progressive worsening, but it was only recently diagnosed following neck xrays. It causes pain in neck joints, clicking of joints all over body, headaches after clicking (intermittent) , weakness in hands and feet and difficulty in walking some distances because of inbalance problems and sinus, blocked nose continually. I have discussed issues with treating medical personnel and they confirm that all the systems described above are part symptomatic of the disease as the cartilege digenerates. Constant pain in all joints and sharp pins in muscle tissue and swelling in neck muscles occurs. I have all this at present. I have been on pain killers but they seem somewhat ineffective and have not been able to find ant treatment for the loss of balance which causes itself some anxiety. Can you tell me or does ant Board member know of a good pain killer or balance treatment medication.
