12y/o with Syrinx, osteophytic spurring and mild disc degeneration

Is anyone familiar with this? The doctor says it doesn't cause pain, won't cause any problems, is not progressive and just forget about it. Everything I've read says just the opposite and the syrinx was found in the area he had severe pain in, difficulty breathing and fell. Nerves from the thoracic region connect in areas of the lungs/diaphragm, so wouldn't that suggest that breathing difficulty could be related to the syrinx?? Has anyone ever heard of a syrinx going away, getting smaller and not progressing??? Any info would be helpful. Thanks
