I have herniated disc at C5 and bone spurs at C3&4. I entered pain management about 2 months ago and was placed on ms contin and nuerontin. Unfortunately, I also have panic attacks that have been well controlled for several years on 1mg klonopin 3 times a day. My pain mgmt dr made my pdoc sign a statement stating he knew I was on ms contin. He signed it, then cut my klonopin dose in half that day. After a couple of weeks, my panic attacks have returned full force. Is anyone else taking a narcotic with a benzo? I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place!
I don't know the source of the panic attacks but for the people with PTSD for whom panic attacks are a daily problem, the drug prazosin is having a lot of good effects. And it's not a benzo or any other type of psych drug...it's a BP drug. It blocks the adrenaline that is produced with a panic attack and even has the effect of stopping the nightmares of PTSD. You take it only when you are in panic to block the adrenaline. Safe with the pain meds.
Ask your pdoc about it as an alternative to using klonopin or along with the klonopin.
