Too soon after surgery?

Just had a Laminectomy yesterday at L 3 (9-27-12) And although I do understand that there is always swelling and pain where they did the work. I was under the impression my severe Sicatic pain would be gone immediatley. Well...it's not. Came home today from hospital and every time I stand up I have the exact same pain running down both my legs as I did pre surgery. Is this too soon after surgery to worry about it?...Did my doctor fail me?....My sciatic pain is prevalent right now typing this out. Please tell me I didn't make a huge mistake by having this done!!
