Post Old Injuries, Pain Management

Well, I went to see the Orthopedic Doctor today.
He was kind and understanding and overwhelmed by my whole medical condition.
It's back to the Neurologist ( a new one this time)
and off to the Pain Management Doctor.
Diagnosis....I have old injuries and lots of Organic stuff going on that could be causing all kinds of trouble that's way out of his league.
At least the man was honest.
Hooray for goodness.
He says that he's the Doctor to go to right after the accidents so you don't wind up with my kind of troubles 20 years later.
Good to know, next time I decide to wait for aeons to have my injuries tended.
So, the Family Practice Doctor is agreeable and helpful with meds in the mean time so it's now onward
in search of management and trying to get back some physical stamina.
The bones have problems but not yet bad enough to risk getting injections in the good Doctors opinion.
He's afraid it will cause me more problems.
Well, that's the story.
New Referals are in process.
I felt pretty good about the visit.
There at least was a direction and a plan.

Bummer, kat. I hope that doesn't happen to me, too. But it could, even after surgery. It has been a long time since the original insult, but at least it has only been 6 months since it has begun to get lots worse.

I hope these new docs help your pains, kat. It's just a never-ending round of doctors' visits, isn't it? Good luck keeping the receipts straight.

Alls well that ends well and while my physical
matters have not ended we now have a new piece
to the pain puzzle.
Seems the young little Orthodedic Doctor was
more than right (even though he could have only been all of 10 years old LOL)
After the visit I went on to have a fairly good day.
My Vioxx was working and the Family practice Doctor make some suggestions for when the Vioxx begins to fade too soon and my referals are coming up so all
seemed to be good in the course of the day.
Then it happened.
The warning rumble.
I was standing in line at the market and I got
the old grip gut but way way high up in the transverse colon area.
My sugar dropped so I did the bad thing and grabbed a bag of skittles.
Yes, I know, that wasn't thinking right but
then one hardly ever thinks right when the Blood sugar is falling.
So I ate some skittles and pulled out of the drop(somewhat) but by the time I got home the grip gut
was cranking it self up.
The next thing I knew my BP shot up and a crisis
began with my colon getting ready to do very bad things.
Thank goodness I have meds here at home.
We called the Family Prac.doctor and he said to use a phenergan suppository and another med I have
here at home.
As soon as the Phenergan kicked in and the heafty dose
of anti spasmodics kicked in I was on my way to pulling
out of the colon crisis.
Now this is totally gross but here's the fact, after
spending more than a few good hours in the bathroom last night, I emerged TEN!!!!TEN POUNDS LIGHTER!!!
after the ordeal.
And my shoulder, neck and fuzzy head with flashing blue lights had gone away and I was exhausted.
My wonderfully sympathetic husband offered to stay and hold my hand during the ordeal but I told him there was no use in everyone suffering to just light me a scented candle and I'd yell if I needed help.
The dog came in to show support too but soon pinned her ears and went and sat in the corner with a really sad look until I told her to go.
Yes, it was some mighty bad stuff.
And yes, I was in scary terrible crisis with my BP shotting up and then dropping suddenly.
But it's done now and that's the good thing.
Who knows how long that stuff had been building up.
I was even having great full relieving bowel movements.
I have a BM every day or I absolutely have to make them happen or else the bowel goes tilt and even worse things happen.
So the Orthopedic Doctor was right.
My organic problems are complicating my bone issues and it's very very difficult to sort one pain from the other.
I haven't really been feeling all that gut pain in my gut.
The spasms were passing to my back and neck and whole left side. Thus the huge mystery for any doctor who does not know what they are looking at.
As for that Vioxx, well, the best I can figure here is that I probably do need a medication like Vioxx or asprin because I do have bone pain that comes from swelling and inflamation.
What the Vioxx did do for me was take the pain far enough away to allow me to get up and be a little more physically active which I am absolutely sure had somthing to do with triggering the movement of the deeper bowel.
With the Vioxx I've felt well enough to go out walking in the nice weather.
So it was all very synergistic and unbeknownst to me a far better plan than I could have immagined or planned myself. I'm going to write Duggie Howser oops, I mean that nice young orthopedic Doctor, a note and let him know how smart he is.
That way the next time he sees the kind of medical mess I brought in for paper work he can have some reference to remember to offer guidence.
Which actually he did very well, even though he kept saying he felt bad because he couldn't be any more clear.
And that's how we as patients can help to make our medical care better.
So this morning I'm 10 lbs lighter and just wiped out,
but the head ache is gone, the brain fog is better and I don't feel weepy.
Toxic Waste.
That's what it was all about.
What a bizarre trip it is.
kat

P.S. the Orthopedic Doctor said that I had a good Chiropractor who did a good job at taking care of my injuries all these years for the intensity and number of injuries that I have had.
