Alternatives to Surgery? - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

A few months ago I had an MRI which revealed focal
spinal stenosis at C5-C6 with spinal cord compression
and nerve impingement.

I also had an X-Ray 2 years ago showing a slipped
vertebra (spondylolesthesis) at L5-S1.

The result of both of these conditions is increasing
spasticity, heaviness and a feeling of charlie horse
type pain in my right leg after walking a few blocks.

I've had message therapy, physical therapy and now
do Iyengar yoga (alot of spinal stretching). I'm
looking for any and all alternatives to surgery.

Has anyone had any improvement with this kind of
spinal problem with electrical stim, injections of
any kind, traction or any other progressive therapy?

Please don't post any dire warnings about avoiding
surgery. I've heard those from the doctors.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lexi,
Welcome to the site. Sorry I can't help with your problems, as I don't know that much about that type of stuff. Most of us have neck problems (there is also a "Back" board). But don't worry about the surgery stuff; most of have either been through it or are on tap to have it done. Of course it's serious business, and we don't ever take it lightly, but sometimes it cannot be avoided.
