2 weeks after surgery - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Well guys, it's been two weeks today since my surgery.

Yesterday, I think I over did a bit. I'm getting antsy about staying at home with such beautiful weather and the gandson is visiting with his mom who is a registered nurse.

I forgot and picked grandson (he weighs about 18 pounds--very light 18pounds)up a couple of times and by night time I was aching in my right shoulder and down my right arm with tingles.

One more week in the damn collar. This hot weather makes it almost unbearable. Glad I did this surgery in the spring and not summer like I almost did.

I have one question: It's about belching. Since my surgery, seems if I lay down and turn over in just a few minutes I belch up a lot of air. Where is this coming from? Has anyone else had this happen?

I remember about two days after surgery as I was just dozing off, I felt air just whoosh out of my mouth. It was weird. Like some alien spirit leaving my body. I didn't have anything to do with it!!!

Ok, I'm not on any drugs! Have only been using tylenol pm for the last week. Just wondered if I was going to spend the rest of my life belching like a beer guzzler!!

You sure sound good, thanks for the post. Yep, the belching and hiccups both I had... don't know why but I did. In fact, I have never been able to burb in my life, so it was a shock.
Then, after a month or so it went away and toned down to like a little growl, still have that sometimes.
???? So glad you sound good, you just slow down a bit and take it easy, this is when it's easy to overdue, then you have a set back... NO NO NO !

Hi Connie,

Ditto everything my cohort Debbie said. My working theory of the belching is that it's a combination of residual anesthesia and the intake of air as we grapple with our offended tracheas.

Please go slow!!! It is so easy to over do and wind up hurting. I took some very long walks in the beginning to avoid going crazy (okay crazier). The couple of times I over did i payed for it for days.

Hi Connie,

It's good to hear from you again.

I can just imagine how hard it is to resist picking up your little grandson.

But please do be careful...I'd hate to see you set yourself back so soon.

I'm sorry the hot weather is making you uncomfortable.
I gotta admit though I'm kinda jealous of your warm temperature...it's c-c-c-cold here and rainy and they're calling for an ice storm later...BBRRRRR.

Hi Connie! Good to hear you're doing so well! Two weeks, huh? It seems just like yesterday.... and I'll bet you've felt every single second of it. But please don't overdo it and risk jerking those vertebrae which are trying to fuse; it would not be worth the long-term consequences. Make sure you're sitting when someone hands you your adorable grandson. Take care!
