Still no voice - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Well I am pretty comftorable, have alot to be thankful for. Throat still feels swollen but not sore. Chest pains are better,I can burp easier. Big worry is I can't talk, sound very hoarse, and some of my pre-op pain on that old left arm/shoulder blade is still zinging me. I have faith in my Lord and my Doc, gotta let them handle it. And I know, REST. Taking my muscle relaxers. That was oxycodone I am taking and am scared of. Trying to take only one at night. Don't need to get hooked on top all this. Thanks for the support. Been Praying hard for you Sandra, hope you are more comftorable.

BDW, it's to be expected that you might still be hoarse at this stage, I think. I hope you find some real improvement with your voice in the next two to three days. I don't think you should be woo worried about becoming addicted to pain meds right now. The most recent things I have heard are that patients in pain do not heal as fast. But I will not be the one pushing pain meds on you; you definitely must be the decision maker, as you know yourself best.

It's good to hear there are some improvements... Hopefully they will keep adding up immeasurably.

I am sorry to hear about the voice strain. I am however grateful that you are able to post. this is a good sign; & comforting to know!!
I know some people who would be grateful if I lost my voice for a while!!! Have pen, will smile!
I am sure that you will hear improvements every day.
Don't rush things. Please remember that you have just experienced a trauma to your entire being. Smile, be grateful!! Thanks for being here.

BDW, don't worry about the voice. It'll come back, but may take some weeks rather than a few days. I've noticed that even at this point if I do much loud talking (like leading my 4-H group of 38 kids) I kind of get hoarse afterwards. Ah well, it's a good excuse to be quiet for a few days.
