Smile Joanne - A Little History

Hi Joanne,

I'm just curious as a result of seeing your signature so often. What's the story about you wiping out on the stairs when you were a child? What happened? If it's not too traumatizing to discuss.

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

No....No big traumatic story here. Just a case of not listening to my dear sweet mother. Everyone.....We MUST LISTEN to our mothers!!! She had repeatedly told me/us kids "NO RUNNING ON THE STAIRS"...well little Joanne (8 yrs old)...playing with her little brother...NOT LISTENING...went running down the stairs, slipped...feet went up in the air....and I slammed down on the edge of the stair on my back. It, of course knocked the wind right out of me. I crawled (literally) back up the stairs, down the hallway, to the bathroom door(where I knew my Mom was), all the while still not being able to breath. From a kneeling position, I knocked on the door. My Mom, (Poor Mom... just tryin' to go to the washroom), opened the door... all I remember was seeing my Mom sitting on the loo, with my little brother screaming and crying beside her(he had seen me fall, was scared and was trying to tell my mom through his tears what had happened). Then I promptly fell flat on my face out cold in front of them. I can only imagine the scene after that. Her trying to pull up her drawers calm my brother and find out if I was dead or alive! POOR MOM!! I think it was all more traumatic for her. The next thing I remember was waking up on my Mom's bed with them both sitting beside me. My mom brought me to the hospital, but because I was young and kinda scared of the ER doc, when he examined me and asked if it hurt I said no, even though it did, so he didn't get x-rays taken. (My mom was ticked). Then about 6 or 8 months later I fell on my bottom from a bar swing (about 2 1/2 ft) and jarred my back. It hurt so bad that my mom took me once again to the hospital. This time they took x-rays. Said there was no new injury but it showed the initial injury...compression fractures of T6 and T8. Just sent me for physio. Wierd thing though...when I had x-rays taken of my back as a teen because of back pain they said there were THREE old compression fractures. Sent me for physio again. Did not have any trouble with my back again till 1993.

So...that's my story...(and I'm sticking to it)

TEE HEE...Maybe we should start a "that's my story" thread.

Quote: I'm just curious as a result of seeing your signature.. "so often".. HMMMM...I hope that doesn't mean you're growing tired of it.

I thank you kindly for the interest.

Take Care,
Joanne

Sunshine!

LOL - I needed that. I'm all yours. I think you made up the story to cover up for some scandal. "Little Joanne trips a lot."

I was trying to figure out what happens to a fractured vertabrae in someone so young as they continue to grow (assuming you have). Do the docs attribute any of todays problems with the fall?

I would drive up and shower you with attention, but I have to head in the opposite direction. I'm driving to PA tomorrow, I hope I can handle the two hours in the car. Oh well, that's what rest stops are for.

You feeling okay today?

Bruce

Hey Sir Jokes Alot,

You always make me laugh!!! And I'm well know for loving to laugh. Fortunately I'm surrounded by funny people (I mean that in a good way...Well mostly tee hee {shh, don't tell anyone I said that})

I promise the story is all true. And actually I kinda do trip a lot, born clumsy I guess (and that occasional drop foot thing this last yr is not helping)

Yes, I did grow (physically anyway tee hee) but not a heck of a lot I'm just a tiny thing. I'm only 5'2...eyes of blue....*****ie coo.

And the story continues...
The fall definitely added to my problems today. Since there was nothing they could do to fix the fractures, the two vertabrea healed into a wedge shape which caused a curve in my thoracic spine (mild curve, not enough to put my hips or anything else outta whack). The curve in my spine, over the yrs, (as I understand it) put added stress on the rest of the spine, add to that my being a very physically active person who also did some physical jobs as well as alot of office jobs and the ageing process and here I am. Of course I don't imagine the tripping helps much.

Ya know, you're gonna hafta stop promising to come up here or I'll hafta hold ya to it

Good luck on your trip...no,no don't trip...on your excursion. I hope it goes well...rest often.

Today...still in some pain...but I'm happy, otherwise healthy, and I have great friends so...LIFE IS GOOD

Looking forward to hearing from you when you get back. (sorry...couldn't resist)

Take Care,
Joanne

PS...Sunshine ... How sweet ... I like that!
