Question Bruce-roommate question???

Hi Bruce,
You replied to me on another thread--thanks...but I'm curious to know what your roommate did that made you want to smother him?? Snoring? TV too loud? Too many visitors?
This really gave me a chuckle remembering when I had my first child. The girl (she ws pretty young) next to me had had a c-section and moaned all night and all day. I was so glad to go home the next day!!! Also, the heat was stuck on-pheww! They opened the window even though it ws breaking fire codes!
How long were you in the hospital? I am only supposed to stay one night. I hope I can sleep. I get REALLY cranky when I don't have enough sleep! I'm assuming I'll sleep during the day also.
Anyone? Anyone?

I also had C5-6 and 6-7 done in March 2002. I was in the hospital two nights. The night of surgery and when the surgeon came in the next morning one look at me and he said "You are not going home today". Of course that was because I had just gotten sick from the anesthesia shortly before he came in. Hopefully that does not happen to you.

As for room mates the second night I was in the hospital the room mate I had was a doozy - she was in for second surgery because right after her first she went home and cleaned house and wrecked the fusion. But when the doctor came in the next day and was asking how I was doing she answered for me - told him about my running a fever during the night; what I had to eat and even answered his question about whether I had any discomfort and when my last meds were given. I was speachless (which doesn't usually happen). When the nurse came in to give me discharge directions and directions on how to remove and replace the neck brace she asked questions of her - indicating she knew I had that question because she did the last time she was in. Talk about a nosey room mate. I think I answered the doctor that I was ready to go home just to get away from her.

Hopefully no one else ever has a roommate like her.

As far as sleeping the first night I know I slept quite abit - more than likely because of the anesthesia and pain meds being given.

more,

Welcome to the board.

I see you are from St A. My home too.

The last time I spent a night in Kerbs, I was in the ICU, and one of the other ICU patients was having a bad night. I could hear her moaning & retching, dry heaves according to the nurse, all the way across the ICU ward all night. At first I felt sorry for her, but as the night wore on, and as I was feeling nauseas myself I must admit I was feeling less charitable toward her as the night passed. I ended up holding a barf bag most of the night myself.

Cheers
Cliff

Kelley!!

I must admit that when I saw the topic subject~~~~I thought that
you were asking Bruce about possibilities!

I quickly opened the post just to be sure!!
hey! Blame it on the med's or not!

I was fortunate enough (i guess) to have a room to myself. I remember hardly anything. I have fleeting moments of my hubby sitting next to me & putting my wedding ring back on.!!!!!!!! (or was that Mel Gibson?)
I do recall that as i was being assisted from my room, where I might add, i had wonderful help; a nurse was in my room within moments after I pushed the "I NEED YOU NOW!!" button! a young girl with her family was being ushered into the other bed. I was in the hall way on my way home just as she was coming out of it all!!

NO roomy stories from hell here!!!!!! I suppose I lucked out & had a private room, un-beknownst to my insurance co.

Stay strong!
Nice to have you with us.
I cannot offer you much advice on the cranky, no sleep issue!!!!!!!!!! 2 kids! both under 5!!
need I say more!!

I will pray for you if you pray for me!! HA!

Wink

Thanks for the replies!

Catherine-You are so funny! I've got enough people at my house! I do a blanket prayer for everyone we know who is sick or needs help-unfortunately we know so many sick people, my son would never sleep if we said all of their names! I'll definitely keep you in mine!

More-What a nightmare!! I would have complained to the nurses so much they would have moved me or her! I've learned to speak up since my first baby (13 years ago). Back then I just assumed I could never change anything and if that's where they put me, that's where I'd stay. Maybe some nice duct tape over her mouth in the night would have helped!

I'm still awaiting Bruce's reply on his horrible roommate.
