concern about being sick from anesthetic? - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Hi everyone,

I am having surgery in July (artificial disc) and I am worried as I always throw up after general anesthetics. I can imagine this would not be good after neck surgery at c5/6. I wonder if anyone else was concerned about this prior to surgery and could anything be done?

So nice to see you your name!

I am sorry that you are feeling anxious about the whole throw up thing.
i have no problem ( that i know of) & you'd think I'd know eh?! with the anasthetic.

I will tell you though that I got rather sick around the 3-4 week mark~ my hubby believes it was food poisoning! I was violently ill!! did not even make it to the bathroom!! the worst part was losing control of my bladder!!!!!!!! all 5 X's!! I am only telling you this because today i can smile at it!!

I must add that wretching my body was certainly something that I felt the next day!!

If you have a problem with what they normally use during surgery, by all means let them know. they deal with such issues all the time.

I have thought of you often in the days past!!!!
& i will continue to do so in the days to come.
Please let us know what is what!!

Nice to hear from you and I'm sorry about your throwing up. Eeeawk! Did it hurt? I bet it did. Glad to hear your throw up free today. I will tell them about my tendencies.
Are you touching your toes yeT? How is your pain now ? Do you find you need many pain meds? A few questions to calm my anxiety. Take care,

I to had that happen to me after my first surgery. Dr said I was allergic to what they gave me for anathesia. So now I tell them and they always give me something differant then what is normally used.
Sorry I don't know name off hand .

I would tell them it made you sick so they can give
you something else.Its never a good time to throw up but espically after surgery.

I threw up the day after surgery. They seem to think it was because of all the ice I ate after surgery. I guess I overdid it.

But there was no affect on my neck at all. I had C5-6 and 6/7 ACDF done.

Definitely bring it to their attention that in the past you have gotten sick after anesthesia and they can give you something to counteract it.
