I don't know what the norm is on who does what surgery. My NS is affiliated with the Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, KY. When they do the surgery, they team up both a spine specialist (Ortho) and a Neurosurgeon. I believe this is a win-win situation for the patient; however, not for the insurance co.
In my case the NS did 90% of the surgery. The Ortho put the Titanium plate and screws in. You actually see both for pre and post surgery visits. My Ortho will take the x-rays in his office to check the hardware.
As far as the Myelogram - you can see my post re: Read prior to having a Myelogram for my experience with this. I didn't have a good experience with this last one, which was done post-surgery. It's been about 4 wks. and I'm still having pain in my lower back and left leg, particularly after walking for any length of time.
I hope this helps.
