Surgery with Dr. Jho 7/29 - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

Just a note to thank everyone for your valuable advice over the past months. I just got a call yesterday from Dr. Jho's office. He bumped me up on his schedule, since I developed numbness in my left leg over the past two weeks. Not good for a cervie!

With such short notice I have hardly had time to panic, which is a good thing. Anyone researching Dr. Jho should also consult the Harvard spinal disorder forum. They have a lot of Dr. Jho patients on that forum.

It looks like I will have a 3 or 4 level procedure. This will be concluded at my exam on Monday. I will report back with my experience.

Holly -

I understand that the cord in the cervical area can affect the legs, but when I reference a dermatome map, it always points to the cervical discs dealing with the shoulders and arms. Did your doctors explain how the legs are affected by this? I've been wanting to know since I have more cervical problems and a herniated lumbar disc, and some leg problems.

I hope Dr. Jho works out for you, I plan to contact him in the future to see if he can help me.

My understanding is that if there is cord compression and myelopathy, it can affect all limbs. I guess in your situation, if you have significant cord compression your leg symptoms could come from your neck. It would be great to get everything fixed with one surgery!

Since you do have lumbar problems, I guess most doctors would feel that your leg symptoms are from your lower back.

Do a search on myelopathy or spondylosis with myelopathy or cervical stenosis with myelopathy to see what I am talking about.

You mentioned that you had e-mailed Dr. Jho. When I spoke with Robin, they had a problem with their server this month and lost several days of e-mail. They may have lost your message, so try again.

Hi Holly,

Would you mind telling where the numbness is in your legs? I had myelopathy, too, but I didn't have any leg numbness until after surgery. My legs have gotten somewhat better, but I still have numbness in both thighs and one calf. Shaving is not the same any more.
