Please Help.. reasons for nuerogenic bladde - Spinal Cord Disorders Message Board

I am begging for some help here. I was a floor waxer, and while picking-up an 80 pound mop bucket the handle broke and I fell backwards hitting my bum and back hard. I have back pain, however, "No" need for a wheelchair, however, two-months after the accident, the insurance provider is refusing to pay for my nuerogenic bladder saying that it can only be cause by a severed spine, and "NOT" by a smack on the back! I have been walking arounf with 700 cc's of urine in me, and have had 7 bladder infections during the last 9 months. I'm trying to find information to dispute the insurance claim managers horrid conclusion. Thank-You in adavance..... Michael Kinsella

Sorry... two-months after the injury (I discovered the Neurogenic bladder) that was when the MRI was done for my back njury, and my Doctor asked me if I had to pee really bad during the MRI.. I was floored, I had NO symtoms then.. and then within a month I began my nightmare... I wear a cath bag at times.. however, with a back injury.. I can only handle it for about two-weeks, and for me.. (I'm only 45) self catherization every 4-hours is out of the question. I really NEED this information so that I can get a perm'nent cath... please.. if anyone can confirm that a "Smack" on the spine can cause a bladder problem such as mine... you will be in my heart forever.. I have been living with this nightmare of rejection for many months... and am worried that i'm going to get severe kydney damage while waiting for my insurance provider to become educated....... Hi Michael,

What a drag, sorry you're having to deal with all of this. According to my own reading, the fall you described could have definitely injured the sacral nerves which might explain your problems. They are wrong with their conclusion that this can only be caused by a severed spine.

Have you seen a neurologist for the problem?

Docent, have you looked through the archives or done a search here or on the Back Problems board? I don't recall anyone using that term here in the past 5-6 months, but that doesn't necessarily mean no one has had the problem. It sounds as if you are in pain, and I hope you can find the specific information you need to dispute the ins. co's claim.
