C-spine MRI is the same? I'm confused by the neurologists reguest for an neck mri. He points out no c-spine mri in his report. WHat's up with that?

Hi Kag,
The neck is made of up the cervical spine (vertebrae of the neck). If you had a neck MRI, it would be the same region as the c-spine MRI. Maybe the imaging technique is slightly different, but the area would be the same.

I guess I am as confused as you are????
I wonder why the neurologists "pointed out" no C-Spine mri when wanting the mri of the neck??????

In all the classes I have taken I was taught that the neck IS the C-Spine (cervical spine) hummmmmmmm????

When you find the answer to this one would you please post it here. I would really like to hear if it has changed.

Geez, as if you don't have enough problems they have to go and confuse you some more.

Hi,

C-Spine is your neck. The spine starts with your cervical spine (which is what C-spine means,) goes to your thoracic spine, then lumbar and the very bottom starts with an "S" I think. Your doctor was probably just talking in layman's terms for you so you'd understand, unfortunately when they do that, it confuses us more when we see the medical terms! lol

I had a neck surgery recently and learned more about my spine than I ever wanted to know

I read that Kag found out the answer by calling the hospital. Even though the region is the same, the imaging technique is different. A neck MRI apparently focuses more on the neck muscles, whereas a c-spine MRI focuses on the discs and the spinal cord.
