Post surgeon may cancel due to surgery for his broken foot- do I want dr. who's recovering

I am in Canada. My first surgeon asked me to defer for another patient because he was going on holidays; i obliged. When my appt. came to discuss prior to and i asked relevant questions he immediately told me spine was not as compressed and he wouldn't do surgery yet if I had not deferred and begged for another MRI i would have had it by then.

Then I get another surgeon whose list is long and just when I am set to go Nov 10 his office calls he has broken foot and he needs surgery the week before mine. Secretary doesn't know if he can stand for my six hour surgery so they are not cancelling but I'm on notice.

I feel so confused. I don't want a sick dr. in my neck. My surgery requires chopping at the vertrebrae above and removing fragments against my spine since it has moved and sequestered at c-5-6 and may need double fusion from bulge at c6-7. I feel like this is a warning if I want it to be to give myself more time to ponder and inform. Meanwhile if I say no to it I can't rebook i am at the end of the list and maybe back on in the Spring; I am penalized for this.

I can't get help for the kids unless I plan, my husband runs a company and needs to know when he has to be off ahead of time; and then on top of it my stress level is so bad waiting I feel too ill to have surgery.

Am I whining. I am not usually like this. I just want it to go away and i'll take my chances but everyone wonders why you complain and dont' have the surgery then. Its never easy but this is like the 3rd time I have gotten ready only to have something prevent me.

ANY comments would be appreciated. Even my husband said he would feel apprehensive about having a pained doctor go near his spinal chord.

I would not have surgery with a doctor recovering from a broekn foot
why risk it ... acknowledge the fact that you can't afford to have his concentration waning if he has twinges of pain ..trust your instincts
