Poker Player is stressed???

This might sound crazy but i'm a middle age poker professional and i've been battling high stress lifestyle. I've been dealing with anxiety for over 12 years but lately my stress is at an all time high?

My profession is a professional poker player and is a very stressful job and while i'm playing i'm under total high stress. One hand could be the difference of winning nothing or thousand or hundreds of thousand of dollars. Sure the easy answer is quit my job but its a job I do well and love. I love to playing poker but my body tells me otherwise. I will play hours after hours and I feel my body so tense during that period. I always catch myself trying to take deep breathes and my teeth grinding away. Don't know why body is more stressed then my mental state. What can I do to live and play poker stress free??? Sometimes during a key hand and my opponent is waiting to make a decision I feel my heart pounding away. Sometimes after my day is through that my body stays stressed out for the rest of the day or night. Some times I say this job is going to kill me but walking away isnt a real answer. Any tips to stop my body from being so stressed out. I feel like a high profile stock or bonds trader on Wall Street.

Thanks

Greg

Re: Poker Player is stressed???

Have you ever tried yoga? When I would have anxiety in situations I would focus on calming down and making myself calm down, but these were situations where I shouldn't have been anxious. There is a technique where you lie on the floor and tense up your whole body and then relax. After this start at your feet and make them relax and move up your whole body until you have relaxed every part of your body. Stay there for a bit and enjoy the relaxation. Try this every day.

Have you considered that you may be an adrenalin Junkie?

Base jumping and snowboarding are not the only ways to get your pulse pounding.

I have played poker in the past and it quickly became something that was all I wanted to do. - The Rush, the Tension - I began to crave the feeling of braving the unknown.

Dispite the damage that it is causing to your body, you have continued to play, and your fooling yourself if you place your only reason for playing on the Need for Employment.

Gambling is a seroius addiction, particularly for those who sit at the high stakes tables and make more in one night than most ever see in a year.

Figure out what is more important to you....the rush and suspense or the fatigue at the end of the night.

Every "job" has its down side.

Re: Poker Player is stressed???

In my honest opinion, quit. Ive been playing poker for about 5 years now.. and made a lot of money.. the best night playing high stakes online is about 30k. At the time, I thought I was the best and felt untouchable.. But, after a few years, bad beats, and tilting.. Im still up as far as my bankroll, but I feel like im not growing mentally, physically, and spiritually...Honestly, I feel like Im giving my life to make money and I feel kinda hopeless.... I decided to quit and that is MY decision..But my advice to you is trust your heart and soul and you will find your answer.. dont let the money trick you.. it will take your life away. Well, good luck and do the right thing..
