The fact that you can self talk yourself into becoming calm is a good thing. You should check in your area to see if there are any free or low cost counseling services that help with coping strategies for anxiety that will improve your physical responses to stress.
I am trusting that you have had a physical recently and that they have not found anything that could be an underlying problem for your pains, but if not, you may want to check into low cost or free doctors you can see just to rule anything else out.
