Is there medication available for nervous tics and twitches?

Since childhood I have been suffering from nervous tics. Over the years these have included nervous twitches of hands (jerking wrists), mouth and neck, eyes (repeated squinting), vocal and subvocal grunts, and scratching. And probably a few more that I forget.

I've heard that there is medication available to counter this, possibly even over-the-counter medication or homeopathic remedies that might be effective.
Does anyone know about this? Which medication, if any, is available from which manufacturers, which brand names, and with what active ingredients? I might have to look for whatever's available in Europe by comparing active ingredients.

Thanks.

Hi. What you describe sounds exactly like Tourettes Syndrome. Please look into it, I am sure there is some kind of treatment.

Re: Is there medication available for nervous tics and twitches?

Hi rdskil,

I'm taking full-spectrum vitamins next to eating fresh vegetables and fruit (although I probably should eat more fruit). I'm not much into fast food, and here in Europe people generally tend to eat less greasy junk food than in the US.
Having said that... I'm not quite sure that having nervous tics for about 25 years can be caused solely by eating junk food and can be cured by taking vitamins.

Still, thanks for responding.

Hi, 4isenuf,

I just looked into Tourette syndrome on the web. You're right, this sounds very familiar. I always thought that Tourette referred only to compulsive cursing but that turns out to be just part of TS (coprolalia).

Thanks for pointing me into what looks like it might be the right direction. I'll see what more I can find.
