2011 - Vertigo
2015 - TIA
Well, the title basically explains what happened. Back in 2015 I woke up like any other day, except my left eye was slightly dim on the bottom. Got a little nervous since that is the eye that has the astigmatism so I figured maybe it was getting worse. In about 2 min it went away. No numbness, no weakness. Nothing. About 3 hours later I was on my phone, and suddenly my index finger, thumb, a small part of my forearm and cheek on my left side went numb for 30 seconds. Went to the ER and every test came back negative so they chalked it up as possibly anxiety since I just got a new job at the time.
The next two weeks is where it got interesting. I felt like something was off. My equilibrium felt lightly tweaked. I wasn't falling over, or stumbling. No confusion. The two weeks pasted and I decided it was time to go back because something didn't feel right.
10/2/20105:Hospital kept me overnight to run some additional tests...
EKG: Negative
Blood Pressure: Normal
Labs: Normal; except for Cholesterol was slightly high
CT Scan: Negative
Chest Xray: Negative
Carotid Artery Ultrasound: Negative
MRA Brain: Negative MRI: Small 5mm infarct on left cerebellum - TIA
Neurologist came in and said I had a small stroke and was really stumped.
I was 29, 125lbs, fit, 6% body fat, don't smoke, don't drink.
Eliquis and Simvistatin for now.
Fast forward to now. If you were to look at me you wouldn't even know I had a stroke, however it's the fear, anxiety and stress that always have me on edge because they still don't know what caused it. Two weeks after my ER trip I had a TEE on my heart. No plaque whatsoever in my heart. However, the cardiologist had seen a small amount of contrast bubbles make from the left to right side of the heart, indicating a possible PFO, but still isn't sure about it.
This is what makes me nervous each and every day. I feel good, however the fear is holding me back. It's hard to explain this to people. I'm not in pain, but it's mental pain that is tough. I've multiple MRI's over the past year and nothing has changed, and nothing new has happened which is good, but it doesn't seem to put me at ease. Blood work is normal. EKGs are normal.
I keep telling myself it's only been a year and it will take a lot of time before I'm back to 100%. Even though I feel like I'm at 95%, it's not 100%.
Anxiety is such a hard thing to handle. I can't filter out what is anxiety and stroke like symptoms anymore....that's the hardest part.
Anyone else have similar experience? Will it get better?

I have had almost the same thing , I had vertigo for about a week, felt off they gave me meclizine than a week later one morning getting ready to leave for work and my right hand was weak was hard to hold something, I tried to write with a pen and really was hard and sloppy. I went to hospital, they did MRI Ct said I had a tia, ran blood tests, echo which was good . The labs came back with the lupus anticoagulant. This is why they said I had it, if u haven't had this checked ask them to check that. I am on baby aspirin, Lipitor and now I am seeing a hematologist next week, they want me to start Coumadin. I am waiting to see hema first. i am living in fear, this is no way to live.wondering when this will happen again. The anxiety level is through the roof. No one understands unless they go through anxiety. Lots of luck

Anyone else have similar experience? Will it get better? | I think you need a hematology consult to determine if you have any blood clotting disorder, like APS described by previous poster. There are several different clotting disorders that can cause strokes and other clots, and it is good to know specific causes to make sure you are on the appropriate preventive medicine. Once on prevention you should be fine but be careful about not smoking, BCPs, hormone replacement therapy or anything that can promote vascular disease or strokes.
