Was this a TIA or No?

Hi everyone. I'm 37, 3 kids, not overweight, non smoker, non drinker and only health issue was a DVT during my 2nd pregnancy.

Last week my husband took me to the ER because I was have some mild stroke symptoms. Tingly and some numbless in my left arm, hand, leg, food and face...all on my left side. I just felt off overall.

They ran every test in the book and also checked for clots due to my history. They found NOTHING, everything came back clear. They do not suspect a TIA. My family thinks this could be a pinched nerve. I have been having some moderate lower back issues ever since my 10 month old started sleeping in my bed.

I had the same, but more mild, symptoms yesterday and my lower back was also flaring up. So my questions are...could it be a totally undetected or TIA or maybe a pinched nerve? Has anyone had these experiences before? I'd love any input. I have a follow up with a neurologist in 2 weeks, but I'm also traveling by plan on a family vacation next week, so I"m nervous. Would love to hear any similar experiences. Thanks!

Re: Was this a TIA or No?

I think its pretty safe to say if the ER ruled out a TIA, it wasnt a TIA...but a pinched nerve can only be detected by CT Scan and does have some similar symptoms.

I have a pinched nerve in my CSpine, neck area. When it acts up I get numbness in my same side hand and arm, sometimes traveling down my leg to my foot. It comes and goes...which, in the case of a TIA, would not happen.

Because you are traveling, if you have a pinched nerve, it may act up worse..sitting in one position, sleeping in a strange bed, all of these things can trigger it. Does ibuprofin help? If it does, it also indicates that this more than likely a pinched nerve.

Be careful what you do on vacation, you do not want to aggravate it worse and wind up in a strange ER far from home!

Good luck!

Re: Was this a TIA or No?

I've had seven strokes and countless TIA's in between, and I know from a lot of experience that not one of my TIA's ever showed up in any test I was given. CT's CT's with contrast, MRI's, nothing. The only time I received definitive proof that I had a stroke was after the fact. The symptoms you are describing sounds very much like the TIA's I was having before my last stroke. I'm really not trying to scare you, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the ER each time you have these symptoms. Good luck
