My mom had a hemoragic stroke from high blood pressure in October of 2003. From what you are saying it sounds like what I went through with her. She was on the resperator for a few weeks and in the ICU for a few months. The first 2 months were bad, it didnt seem like she would ever be mentally with us. She wouldnt talk or any thing, and then when she started talking she was confused and it just didnt seem like her. Like you the doctors never told me any thing, they just said "time will tell" One day we went to visit her and she actually started to understand what we were saying and started to respond, it was a total turn around. Within the next few weeks she was sitting up in bed and would visit. She went to a nursing home after that because she still couldnt eat or drink any thing, and she couldnt transfer and had to use the bedpan. After a few weeks at the nursing home she was able to eat and 3 weeks later she could transfer to the bed side comode. It has now been almost 9 months and she is living at home, she can walk short distances with a special cane called a Hemi cane. She has learned how to walk up and down stairs and her personality is almost like what it was before the stroke. She still does therapy and they hope to get her walking with the hemi cane all the time instead of using the wheelchair. I remember back when she first had the stroke, I would never have thought that the woman laying there would ever be the woman she is now. Some times it seems like there is no hope, but there is. I hope that your father pulls through. I thought my mom would be a vegetable or some thing because she just layed there almost in a coma like state, but with therapy and family support she has made it a long way. I hope your father gets better and I will pray for you and your family.
