Re: Pfo

Hi Lisa. I had a mini stroke back in April (has permanently affected my right side) and after a TOE, they found a PFO. I am on blood thinners and Zocor for cholesterol and finally got a referral to a Cardio today. I have been seeing a Neuro who said because my symptoms are neurological, there was no need to see a Cardiologist. After much nagging from friends and family, I finally requested to see a Cardio. We'll see what he has to say. Oh I am 39 and do not want to be on thinners for the rest of my life! Regards, Jayne (in Sydney).

Did you have a TIA or a full on stroke, because I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't have permanent affects as a result of a TIA. I could be wrong however.

What I had was referred to by my Neurologist as a RIND.... more severe than a TIA but not a full-blown stroke. Can't for the life of me remember what it stood for.... something something neurological damage. My MRI showed 2 areas of a bleed and I was left with weakness down my right side. I remember vividly when it happened as my right side went numb and I was unable to talk properly.
I recently had my eyes checked at the Optometrist and even my right pupil doesn't dilate the same as the left.
Hope this answers your question!

Re: Pfo

Hi Y'all! I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn't worry too much. There is a plan for everyone. I had a stroke 5 years ago this Thanksgiving, and it wasn't an easy thing to deal with. I have to take blood thinners every morning, and when I'm tired, my brain takes little naps. I lost all of the feeling on my left side, but slowly it came back. It's something that I laugh at now. But back then It was a little difficult to deal with. I was only 21 when it happened. Ahhh! The Birth Control Pill!! What a difference that made. Now I have no time of the month at all. If anyone needs any infromation let me know, and i will talk to my Neurologist. (Just so happens I work in his office now!)
