Effects of Statin?? Two years ago I had a stroke, TIA, which left me with little side effects except for a slight drooping of my left eye lid and lip. Three months after the stroke I had a Heart Attack and began my therapy immediately after to include speech therapy. After 9 months my doctor had doubled my dosage of my Zocor (statin) from 20mg to 40mg. within one month I began to have pain in my right shoulder and then spread to my legs and calf area. During this period I also began to slur my speech more than ever, where people could not understand what I was saying.It got to the point I could barely walk I was in so much pain. Finally after four months of taking the 40mg of ZOCOR I convinced my doctor to take me off it. After six months most of the pain has subsided, but the slurred speech has not. The neurologist had a MRI taken and additional blood test and so far nothing indicating the possible source. I'm now going for a Dysarthia evaluation and visiting several other Neurologist to brain storm over my condition and hopefully come up with a diagnosis. I might add, what is unusual is my speech is pretty normal when I get up each morning, but as the day progresses the slurring becomes more noticeable. By evening time it is very difficult for someone to understand my speech. Individuals who may not know me sometimes get the impression that I,ve been drinking.
