TIA or Stroke? Please Help

Hello to All,
I am so happy I found this board and feel so much better that I am not alone on this either. I do have a few questions in hope maybe someone could shade some light on please.

On june 3, 2006 I started having symptoms of:
Difficulty Talking & walking, keeping eyes open. Slurred speech , shallow breathing, heaviness in chest, burning in sinus cavity, extreme weakness thru out body, chills, dizziness/light headiness (feeling as if I am going to passout), all over body trembling, slight blurred vision, numbness in the lower back of the head and in face, tingling in left arm. Even as of today I'm still having problems with weakness in standing.

Well after the doctor came in to see me he claimed this was a Panic Attack because all test came back normal he said. I know for a fact these are not panic attacks.

These symptoms started June 3, 2006 and I only had 2 of them during the month of June. Ever since June, they started happening more and more and now they are like at least once or sometimes 2 to 3 times a week. They are getting worse. Plus, I want ti sleep more then I normally do. Could this be TIA or Stroke?

Any idea as to what this may be caused from?

I have also had 2 MRI's one for the brain and one c-spine. Tomorrow at 3 pm I will be having an EEG. I will get the results of these 2 MRI's tomorrow I am hoping!

Any idea as to what this may be caused from?

Thank You,
Ark

Re: TIA or Stroke? Please Help

I would just say wait for the results of the MRI. Everyone's reactions to strokes are a bit different, etc, from what I've heard. I know it's hard to wait, but the results will shine a light on your situation if indeed it was a stroke. Best Wishes, Kristin (you can read my story by clicking on my other posts... I'm new, so you probably know that!) Live, Love & Learn...

Re: TIA or Stroke? Please Help

An MRI scan will show with great certainty whether or not you've been having strokes. Strokes vary in severity, from mini strokes transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) to full blown brain haemorrhages. Alot of your symptoms though, do not coincide with those of a stroke. Either way, there are many treatments available, but if it is stroke, the most important things that you can do for yourself are to stop smoking, control your blood pressure, watch your weight and reduce your cholesterol.

Re: TIA or Stroke? Please Help

Hi Vhair,
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this post. I did get the MRI results and they showed a small spot in the brain. My Neuro wanted to do the Lumbar Puncture to rule out MS.... it came back negative for MS.

As far as TIA's. he said these will not show up in an MRI as they are not really a stroke but can lead to a stroke.

Anywho, thanks for your reply.

Sabrina

Re: TIA or Stroke? Please Help

Hi Sabrina. Sounds similar to my experience to a small degree. I had numbness shoot down my right arm, tingling in my right hand, vague feeling of nausea, irritability. They did 2 CT scans of the brain and a MRI of the brain and all were negative, but because of my sensory probems, they think I may have had a TIA. They are referring me to a neurologist. They also thought I might have had a panic attack, but I don't have panic attacks.

Hope you are doing better. Have they put you on meds, or made any suggestions to you?

Suzi
