please someone answer

Please answer my son 18 had tia last week, 2nd one in 3 months. No dx given after the 1st one, we do not know the reason for this yet (seeing neuro Fri) but he has been explaining to me what type of symptoms he had during it. He said that it felt "like his head was disconnected from his body" and he was seeing things from the back of his head like his eyes were at the back of his head and he was looking thru his head, he also had "wave" of numbness/tingling in feet and shooting pain before the tingling in left arm. He said most of the numbness/tingling were in his head Has anyone else had these strange symptoms???? Also since the morning after this attack he is completely depressed crying alll the time does not know why and say that he just "doesn't feel himself" Is this usual??? He has never been like this before Please answer

Re: head disconnected from body feeling

So sorry for what your son and you are having to deal with.i am thinking that the area where this tia took place some how has affected his prioperception somehow?the prio is kind of how a person sees or views there body in relation to space?its kind of hard to explainbut this can happen when certain areas of the brain and the spinal cord are affected.in the brain,i do believe it would be the cerebellar region and in the cord it is the spinocerebellar tract.i have this loss of prioperception in different areas of my body and my "perception' of like my legs are very different than the way i see other body parts.its really rather freaky.i have spinal cord damage which actually affected three seperate spinal tracts,i also have an aneurysm in my brain too.oh,lucky me.

the crying that your son is experiencing is most likely whats called lability?i think thats the correct spelling anyways.but this can happen when once again, certain areas of the brain are affected some way.i would do some searching on lability and prioperception in brain injury or with TIAs and see what you find out.this may at least help you and him to understand at least in some way as to what is oing on and why.tell him he isn't going crazy, this is being most likely caused by the type of affectation of his brain in relation to the TIAs.

i hope the neuro can find the cause of this soon and possibly be able to treat this in some way.your son is wayy too young to have to dealing with crap like this already.I DO wish the best to you.Good luck and please let me know how things are going?Marcia

Re: head disconnected from body feeling

Thank you so much Marcia for replying to my post, I was beggining to think that nobody does on this thread. He is home from college now and I feel better having him near me , we are off to the Neurologist in the morning and I will update after that. I don't think a lot will happen at that visit just a consult but please god the Dr will test and find out what is going on so that he can go backk to having a normal life
Thanks again for your good wishes

Re: head disconnected from body feeling

Good luck on the appt,i certainly hope he can at the very least, give you some hope and some answers.i know its tough having a child who has been thru some pretty awful nightmare medical crap.my son has suffered from alot of different things.he is 19 now,but i still feel like i am dealing with something 'hurting my baby' ya know?

another thing i wanted to mention is that this could be an ocular issue as well.i know when i get my migrane headaches,i experience this really scarey/freaky "perception" of my arm(its always the one opposite the headache side?)not actually being my arm?this is somehow related to a vision issue within the brain itself.i really cannot actually put into words just what this perception feels like but it is a definite disconnection from my body.i can move it around and have sensation, but when i actually look at it,it just appears almost like someone else placed their arm inside my shirtsleeve or something.its honestly the most freaky thing i have ever experienced in my life, and believe me,since my spinal cord was injured,i have experienced sensations like you would not believe.its an ongoing neuro nightmare where no two days in a row are the same, something is always morphing into somthing else.just unbelieveable really, espescially when trying to actually explain this to someone else, even my docs.so i DO somewhat understand just what your son is talking about.

i will be thinking those positive thoughts for him at his appt.i do hope something can be done to help him.what is the exact extent of his neuro injurys?is this the only residual effect he has or are there other issues he is dealing with as well?

please keep me posted as to what you find out.good luck,Marcia
