Hi all,

My fiance who is 38 and a marine in excellent health just suffered a stroke approximately a month ago while undergoing surgery. As far as he can describe, his peripheral vision in his right eye is affected the most. He describes to me that he sometimes sees red or black dots that dance around when he is looking at objects, among other annoyances in his vision. He is still heavily sedated with narcotics due to the surgery so I'm not sure if that may also be affecting his vision.

I was curious to know if anyone else has experienced this type of activity in addition to loss of vision? If so, has anyone fully recovered from this? His Neurologist told him that he has no reason to believe he won't fully recover but is unable to give us a time frame. I guess I'm just looking for some real world examples.

I'd say it's still relatively early, it's only been a month...it does take time to fully recouperate...

My stroke affected my vision for a while...my peripheral vision seemed to come back last. Then, I'd occasionally get "aura's"...the doctor said they were migraines, but, I'm not sure, but, i'd get these wavy, zig zag patterns in a field of vision...they'd eventually go away...

he COULD have some permanant issue, but its soo hard to know... only time can tell, and it can be so hard to be patient...but that fact that it's only been a month, leaves room for a better chance of recovery...

Thank you so much for the information. I know everyone is different, but out of curiousity, how long did it take for you to get your peripheral back?

You know..i'm really awful at those kinds of questions... I never remember exactly...

I want to say maybe a month...

but of course... depending on what part of the brain his stroke was in... could vary greatly.

Do you know what region of his brain the stroke was in??

Mine was in the "left hypothalmic region"....
