My father suffered a major stroke around this time last year. Although he wasn't completely paralysed, the right side of his body was very weak and he's lost half the sight in one eye and a third of the sight in the other. With time he got his strength back and is able to walk normally again, but the parts where he has lost sight has stayed the same.
I've read articles on the internet that doctors have developed a machine that can improve the vision of stroke sufferers. Although it's still in trial, it seems quite promising!
