Information please - Stroke Message Board

My brother had a TIA, so the doctor thinks. He had a CT scan done, it showed where he had a stroke in the center of his brain. The doctor ordered a MRI and they said it was clear, so they are sending him home today. We live in a small town and the MRI is in a trailer. Could that machine be as good as a large unit in a big hospital? What should I do for him? What kind of doctor should I take him to?

Hi,

I would take him to a Neurologist. They specialize in strokes and TIA's. Perhaps he'll order one be taken at a regular hospital facility.

Hi Harvey, sorry to hear about your brother. I was taken by ambulance to a largish hospital and their Cat scan machine was in a trailer, and then was transported to another hospital. Theri MRI was in a trailer. I don't think the location of the machine means anything. A lot of hospitals have construction going on, and that is the reason for trailers. I do agree with the other person though. good to see a neurologist who can better assess/evaluate him, prescribe and recommend.

Thanks! We had our local GP refer him to a Little Rock Neurologist but can't get an appointment untill Jan.5th with a new Doctor. It's a large group but the doctor has only been at the clinic for 5 months. I hope he's not fresh out of Med school. I like someone with a few years on them. Even I got smarter as I got older.. lol
