Angry friend had a stroke, husband refused to get medical help!!

my friend had a stroke yesterday. and her husband did NOT take her to the hospital! all the symptoms were there and they KNEW she was having a stroke. (she was completely incoherent) he sat her down on the couch and started praying. they say they prayed there way out of it. although all the signs of a stroke are there. she slept the rest of the day. was tired and forgetful today. he told us that god protected her from it. i think it's absurd. he was responisble for her safety and he did not call 911 when she was having a STROKE! he knew very well what was happening but his blind faith in god put her in great jepordy. i'm sure if she was coherent at the time she would have asked to go. she was so out of it she kept asking him (at least 10 times) "have you prayed about the stroke?" and the whole time he was praying about it. i don't understand how someone can be so blind in there faith that they would put their loved ones in danger! i don't konw how to talk to him about it. i want to tell him that he's an IDIOT and should be locked away in a dark hole never to return to human civilization (sorry i'm extremely angry) but anything you say to him negative about his religion he refutes. doesn't even TRY to reason. logic is a complete threat to him. lisa was in a life-threatening situation, and was depending on john to help her and get her the medical treatment she needed. but he did not. he's too much of a child and too blind in his faith that he did not help the most precious thing to him when she needed it. and whats worse, hes trying to convince her not to even call her doctor! i told her to at least go to the hospital and get a MRI or SOMETHING. but hes trying to talk her out of it. what's his trip?? he's off his freaking rocker.... what am i supposed to do? how can i tell him that what he did was a TERRIBLE mistake and he put his wifes life at risk? how can i get past the whole religious subject of it? he thinks that he has absolute control over lisa and is trying to make her disicions for her. even though she can go th the damn hospital whenever she WANTS!

just for the refrence i'll tell you about the actual stroke. i wasnt there but this is what they told me. she got out of the shower and she said her whole side was numb. she said her vision went down to a tiny spec and could hardly see more than a dot. like tunnel vision. she went downstairs and sat on the couch and was completely incoherent. she slept the rest of the day. and all day today she's had a migrane spot and it wont go away.

im really at a loss of what to do. she's one of my closest friends and i don't want to see her life thrown away at the hands of her truly MORONIC husband!! someone please HELP me!

i'm sorry if this post seemed a little rude but i'm so furious at him right now i can't help it. i'm actually holding back at what i really want to say about that stupid disgrace of a man.........

Re: friend had a stroke, husband refused to get medical help!!

Hi,

First of all she's lucky to have a friend like you. More importantly, you have to over-ride the husband and talk to her directly. Convince her this is very serious.

The fact she lost memory the next day; and she could not move on one side, as well as the vision problem, clearly shows she suffered damaged to a portion of the brain.

And remember, if one does find the cause of the stroke, without proper medical treatment, the chances are very high she may suffer another stroke, possibly worse. I

There are many reasons why she had this stroke. One, may be a blood clot clogged a portion of the brain, which didn't allow oxygen to pass through. By the way, I speak from very personal experience. This type happened to me.

Another could be a bleed in the brain.

And still another, as what happened to my 40 year old niece, a blood clot escaped through a hole in her heart she was unaware she had, which surgery had to repair it.

Normally I wouldn't scare someone, but I think in this case you need to scare her as well as her husband.

Let me know how you make out.
A Friend

Re: friend had a stroke, husband refused to get medical help!!

i convinced them to go to the hospital yesterday morning. the doctor said she definatly suffered from a stroke. he said it was in her thamalus. i don't where or what that is but from what lisa told me, it's VERY rare for it to happen in a woman so young. and even a woman in general. she got a cat scan yesterday and she's going to scedual a test for an MRI and some type of ultrasound on monday. we don't know the cause of it yet. but what we do know is that she's suffered permanent vision loss. it's not that terrible but she can't see small parts. this is so terrible!

Re: friend had a stroke, husband refused to get medical help!!

if a situation like this should unfortuently happen again, just call the police and they can take it from there.he could very well have been responsible for her death, lets see him pray his way out of a murder charge.that is just sooo sick.i have heard of innocent children who had some sort of life threatening situation occur and the parents just prayed instead of seeking help or calling 911,and the child ended up dead.thats just sooo apaling.if i were you,i would still maybe call the police or at least stop into your local PD and have a chat with a detective.you need to have this documented just in case some stupid thing like this happens again.the treating doc at the hospital should also be made aware of it if he has not already.this is a form of domestic abuse actually.she was in a very highly vulnerable state and he did nothing.this DOES need documentation.you also need to speak with her directly about what SHE wants in the event something like this happens again and have her write it out on some sort of document or paper and possibly have it notorized, and have you keep it or have it on file at the hospital they are most likely to use.

but definitely speak to the police so they at least something on file about this idiot.this is just sick, really and i don't blame you one bit for being completely outraged by his behavior.good luck, hopefully this or something like this, will not ever happen again to your friend, just her husband.she is very lucky to have you as a friend.marcia
