17 years old- suffered acute ischemic stroke

I'm 17 years old and finally made it to my senior year, only to be set back by a stroke! Last month, I suffered an acute ischemic stroke in 3 places in my brain. The doctors are still not sure what caused it, with no finding's of blood clots anywhere. I'm having a heart catheterization on September 19 of this month to close the PFO in my heart. The doctors say that I really recovered to my fullest all by myself very quickly. I was turned away by the physical therapist because he said there was nothing he could do!

I still have some double vision, trouble with balance, and weakness in my right side (especially left arm, hand, fingers.)

I know it hasn't even been a month, and I am very fortunate. But will this all go away? Does anyone know any good exercises for me to do? Thanks

Re: 17 years old- suffered acute ischemic stroke

My 7 year old son is getting over a stroke he had 6 months ago. Initially the doctors couldn't find out why he had had a stroke but now his neurologist says it was due to chicken pox. Before this happened I never knew that children could get strokes.

I'm sorry to hear that the therapists have turned you away. We found physiotherapy to be useful. I think you need to do regular stretches of your weak side and just gradually try and build up the strength. Start small and build up - that was what we did.

I have seen this research about children's strokes : www.childstroke.org.uk

I want to find out what they find out about children recovering.

Best of luck spikeinyourface.
