I'm a stroke survivor of almost 12 years now. I had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, and write again. It took a while for me. I don't know what you've been told about stroke recovery; each person's stroke is different, so is his/her recovery.
Does your mum give any indication that she hears you? Can she have her hearing tested?
I can well imagine how devastating something like this is for you and your family. Don't give up on her, and if it were me - I'd keep right on talking to her - even if you don't know if she's hearing you or not. She just might be able to hear you just fine, but can't tell you.
I am feeling for you and your family as my dad also had a massive stroke and loss the ablility to use his right side and speech, he was also fed through a tube into his stomach.
Remember that no one has a good answer for this as everyone will recover at different rates.
We were told point blank by the intensive care doctors that my dad would probably not get much better than how he was after 2 weeks of having the stroke and the doctor was correct. My dad survived for 7 months like this and it broke our hearts to see him in that condition.
Be strong for your mom and do talk to her because I beleive she can hear you and this will bring some comfort to her. Tell her you love her and visit often.
