Does this sound like a stroke?

So lately I have been having these episodes (well that is what i call them). My right side of my face starts to tingle and feel kind of numb it is my cheek corner of mouth and part of top lip. At the same time my right had finger will start to tingle and cramp up a little bit and my right foot will start to tingle. I also get nausea and dizziness with this. Sometimes it lasts the whole day and other times it lasts for hours at a time and then goes away but it does happen everyday sometimes right when I wake up in the morning. When the tingling and stuff goes away I am left with some dull pain in its place.

I have had an MRI or my brain and cervical with no findings so my neuro is repeating all the tests but dont go until the day after x-mas. Anyone else have these symptoms?

Any ideas what this could be? My neuro mentioned stroke which freaked me out pretty good. I am 27 year old female.

Thanks

Re: Does this sound like a stroke?

Hello,
You are indeed very young for a stroke, but my husband's doc said they are seeing more & more younger people have them (he is 41). it does sound like signs of a stroke, but let's hope it's not. Good luck with your tests & post back & let us all know how it goes. Take Care & Merry Christmas

Lisa

Re: Does this sound like a stroke?

Thank you...I hope it is not either. I have to wait until the day after xmas to have the MRI. I have been having the symptoms for 9 days now. I would think if it was a stroke I would have had some other symptoms also. I dont know though cause I am not a doctor. Thanks for your reply!

Laurin

Re: Does this sound like a stroke?

Headache, nausea and dizziness during and/or after the attack?
Familial Hemiplegic Migraine and the more common Basilar Artery Migraine can both cause stroke-like symptoms (called hemiparesthesia). But I wonder if migraine would be so relentless, day after day.

The only other thing I can think of is hypocalcemia. Low calcium causes a tingling sensation around the mouth/face and pins and needles of the hand and feet, this is usually the first symptom. It also causes carpopedal spasm, where your fingers and/or toes feel like they're curling up and muscle aches, spasms and twitches.

Many things can cause low calcium. Kidney problems, thyroid problems, low vitamin D or magnesium, digestion problems like Celiac Disease, eating disorders or extreme diets, among others.

I had the low cal symptoms shortly before being diagnosed with Celiac a few years ago. At the same time a low vitamin A level gave me night blindness as well.

Good luck with your appt. I hope all goes well.

Re: Does this sound like a stroke?

I went for an MRI and all is clear. Nothing was seen in my brain or cervical spine. Neuro wants to do a spinal tap to check for inflammation. I am scared but told him to schedule me for it anyways.

AuntieLeela - Thanks for your reply. I do have IBS and have been using the bathroom alot. Because of this I have been taking a lot of vitamin supplements and they do seem to help a little. I wonder if there is some problem and my stomach is not absorbing these vitamins that I need causing me symptoms. Doc says if the spinal tap does not show anything then I need to go to my gastro intestinal doc and see if he can figure something out. I also have ulcerative colitis which is an auto immune disease so I guess it makes me prone to others as well?? So I guess the hypocalcemia is not too far fetched since I do have a history of stomach problems???

Thanks again all
