| unexplained, sustained spike in blood pressure
Having had a fairly major stoke May 11/08, I am eager to prevent further events. I have been taking 20mg of lisinopril, 120mg sr of verapamil since then to control blood pressure and that strategy was effective until Feb 1/09 when I had a minor stroke following a rigorous cardio workout. when i went to the emergency my blood elevated to over 180/90 and those elevated pressures remained higher than normal for me for at least 24hrs. I was diagnosed with a pfo after the May 11/08 event and was placed on warfarin therapy so the thinning of blood did not prevent the stroke leading a tentative conclusion that the pfo was responsible after a ultrasounds eliminated the possbility of clots originating in carotids or the legs.
My question is are there any known explanations for a sustained spike in blood pressure? Meanwhlile I have suspended those workouts.
Ps. It is my 73rd brithday today
