Have not smoked for... a week. Yea!! But I am not doing this on my own. I have to have some help. I am using the patches. Almost 8 years after my strokes I do this. But I am doing this. For me, my kids, & my wallet. Alberta |
Re: Have not smoked for..... G’day Alberta1967, Hope you and your loved ones are well and happy. Considering all you have endured in your life, I reckon if you really want to kick the smokes you will. The first day is the hardest, the mere fact that you gone a week without a coffin nail (a smoke) is testament to your will power. You can kick the habit I know you can. Good luck and kept in touch, God bless…… George |
Re: Have not smoked for... [Wow congrats Alberta that is fantastic. What determination and will power. I remember when I quite after going my first 24 hours without a cigarette I then realized I could do it. Because if I could go one day then I could go 2 days and it just grew from there. That is awesome. Good for you. Keep up the good work and please keep posting and let us know how your doing. Doing it for your kids, what great modivation. God Bless Mulchie |
Re: Have not smoked for... Alberta! I applaud you and your efforts!!! It has been 4yrs since my stroke and I just quit Sept. 1st. I had always tried patches in the past, but always started up again. Also, after the stroke, the patches gave me problems. BUT, if they help then use them. The main things to remember are that when we quit, we romanticize smoking. We tell ourselves we miss the ones after a meal or first one of the day. That is bull puckey. They taste awful and anything we had to learn to enjoy, is not something that can possibly be good for us. The best thing I recently learned is that all those withdrawals I feared so much, don't even exist! There is no physical pain when we quit. The whole struggle is psychological. Once I got my head around that, I knew I could be stronger than that evil weed once used as an insecticide! You can be too and I wish you all the best. You don't need luck, just determination. Just don't ever smoke another one and you will never be a smoker again, pretty easy eh?! ;-) |
Re: Have not smoked for... G’day Alberta1967, How are you going mate, hanging in there? I reckon you are. Quitting has got to be the hardest thing to do. I’m putting my money on you, you’re a safe bet to quit in your own way and time. I know you’ll be in there punching away, just as you done all your life. All the very best the world can offer to you and your loved ones. George |
Re: Have not smoked for... I was a heavy smoker before my major brain stem stroke 3 packs a day. I quit the day of my stroke and have not touched a smoke since last December. The stroke scared me so bad not only did I quit smoking I didn't suffer any withdrawal even with the heavy habit I had. Now, even the smell of second hand smoke stinks to me. I now realise I must have smelled just as bad!. Do I miss smoking? NO WAY!. 1 strange thing, I had 3 TIAs prier to my big stroke and ALL 3 were about 10 minutes AFTER I smoked a cigarette. All 3 warnings were ignored by me but when the BIG ONE hit me last December I got the message LOUD AND CLEAR! |
Re: Have not smoked for... Hey Alberta, since you have not responded, I get the feeling you went back to smoking. DO NOT worry about it. Just try again. It took me years after my stroke to finally quit for good. I wasn't smoking at the time of my stroke, but the stress of trying to recover got to me and I actually started up again! How pathetic right? Well, it happens. I used a book by Allen Carr (the big one not the small one) to help me finally kick the habit. Might help you too. If you really want to get rid of those things, give it a try. Good luck to you and I hope you are just too busy enjoying all your nonsmoking energy to get back to us. Then all my advice would be uneeded :) Goldsworthy, Well Done!!! It is funny how all those horrible withdrawals really don't exist except in our minds. Congrats and may we both remain permanent nonsmokers! |
Re: Have not smoked for... No I haven't smoked any. But Boy!!! I had a dream one night & in it I was smoking, I woke up really wanting one but I didn't. Sat. will be 3 weeks. One day at a time. Alberta The reason I am not on here alot is I am a single mother of 4. I am always in my car. Alberta |

Re: Have not smoked for... And this past week, one of my sons turned 15. So guess who has to teach him how to drive? Alberta |
Re: Have not smoked for... Ok it has been 4 weeks & let me tell you, it has not been easy.I get aggrevated really quick. My 15 year old wants to drive all the time & I will not let him. He yells at me & I go back at him really fast.I hope & pray this passes soon. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. All the best to you guys. Alberta |
Re: Have not smoked for... G’day Alberta1967, Hang in there mate, teenage boys are hard enough to handle at the best of times, even when you’re fully fit. The boy has discovered driving, it the most exciting thing ever, added the fact his hormones are all over the place, he is going to be little bit hard to control. We didn’t mention the fact that you are going through withdrawal symptoms, caused by giving up one of the most additive drugs on this planet. I taught my three children to drive and believe me it was no easy task. My patience was tested daily, I have to say I lost my cool many a time. In time the entire commotion well pass into history and day will come when your son will be grateful you were firm with him. Mate, from the bottom of my heart, I wish all the very best. You will beat the smokes, and teach your son to drive. I reckon I can bank on that. George……. |
Re: Have not smoked for... Thanks George. Did I forget to mention I have 4 kids? And this is only the second one to drive. I told my oldest today he has to get his life in order. Because in 6 years my 3rd son will be driving too. And in 7 years my daughter. And I don't think I can take to much more. But I am staying away from my smokes. Alberta |
Re: Have not smoked for... I am so happy to hear you have made it 4 weeks plus!!! The best thing I can tell you is that the stress is going to be there no matter what. If you smoked, it wouldn't actually make the stress go away. It would add to the stress by putting you back into the world of *needing* smokes and stressing over when you can have your next smoke. Sounds to me like you have enough stress so don't add more to your plate! I do feel you on the kids issue and I think you are doing great. Well done and just keep with it. Cigs have no more power over you! :) |
Re: Have not smoked for... g'day Alberta1967, how are you going, hope you and your loved ones are all well healthy. just throught i'd say hello. george......... |
