I've had 3 strokes since June 18. At one time I was told I have a hole in my heart a TEE was done and that this is causing them. Yesterday I had another TEE and now I'm being told theres no hole. I heard there is a national lawsuit involving companies of cold medicines that may have caused strokes in women my age. How do I find more about this. My doctors aren't sure whats causing mine and suggested I look into this.

What's a TEE,something to close the heart? I was told the clot I have probably came thru a small hole in my heart but I didn't have it fixed. Is that a big surgery? Would like to know more about it...thanks jp50

g'day guys,

If you are talking about what I think you are I know it as a TOE where they do an ultra sound of the heart from within the wind pipe (cant spell the o word) looking for a hole in the heart. I too have had one done but they did not find an unwanted hole in the heart. It is a day surgury routine where the throat is numbed and a tube is put down in order to do the ultra sound. I was awake during mine and was able to view the monitor while they looked.

In my case I had autoimune elements go out of whack causing me to clot internally, the first an arterial clot (complicated with a haemorage) causing a massive stroke, the second a large DVT (deep vein thrombosis) left leg and for good measure a PE (pulmonary embolism or clot on the lung).

Cant help you on the class action bit.

The medicine in cold and weight loss drugs, is called phenylpropanolmine (or PPA). That causes hemmorrhagic strokes (bleeding, not a clot). If you're thinking of doing the class-action lawsuit thing, I think you'd better hurry up. Depending on which state you live in, you might only have have a little time left to join the lawsuit. I think that the FDA first starting about PPA and strokes in November of 2000.

The procedure was called a Trans-Esophageal Echocardiogram. The procedure is exactly the way described. If there is any information I can get for this Class action lawsuit I would greatly appreciate it. I'm still going through the process of seeing a number of Neurologist and Cardiologist. I'm on Coumadin and may be on for the restof my life. Are there any other alternatives besides Coumadin?
