IRREGULAR HEARTBEATS - Suggestions for New Boards Message Board

I have irregular heartbeats alot. Does anyone have them (called PVC's) by my cardiologist. he says they are harmless but if you have ever had 100 a day, it is not very pleasant. i currently take an antidepressant Paxil which makes them go away (most of the time). i have tried no caffiene, herbs, vitimins with no luck. does any one have suggestions, as i would like to eventually get off the paxil.

just curious but have you ever had your thyroid checked? If you have hyperthyroidism you will experience heart palpatations.That is one of the symptoms..........

Hi,
I am having PVCs right now as I type! I am assuming that your doc has checked you out thoroughly for any physical ailment that can cause irregular heartbeats. If this is true, you have nothing to worry about. I have had PVCs for about 15 years, and there have been times when I thought that I was going to die, have a heart attack, go nuts trying to live with them, etc. I wore a holter monitor twice, and I have seen two cardiologists. In one day, I had over 5,000 PVCs recorded on the monitor. That was a good day! Some days, I have less, some days I have more, but if your heart is healthy, and you have been checked by your doc, you will be fine. They are annoying, but harmless in a normal heart. I too suffer from irregular heartbeats and was in hospital last weekend because of it. I normally get them in conjunction with severe chest pain (which extends down my arm) but, like everyone else, have been told that they are harmless.

I now take betablockers for the problem.

I have them occassionally now. But, I have them quite frequently when I am on anti-depressants and several on a stressful day. I needed a beta blocker when I was on the anti-depressants and a little while after I discontinured it. I was checked for thyroid and was told that it was in the future for me. It seems that the anti-depressant aggravated the frequency.
