Is the nose swab test accurate for Swine flu testing?

I had the test at the doctors office today, it came back negative for swine flu. He said I have bronchitis. I sure have the symptoms of swine though. I am really nervous!

Re: Is the nose swab test accurate for Swine flu testing?

No it is not. My husband was told he "just had a virus" and the swab came back negative; however, he had a fever of 102 that pain relievers wouldn't touch, slept 20 hours a day, his lungs burned, he was achy, had the chills, headache...

Another person I know went to her doctor and had the nasal swab. Her husband went to a different doctor and got a negative swab as well; however, the doctor ordered a more specific test and it came back as positive after a couple of days and was put on tamiflu.

The swab would only tell you if you got type a influenza.THe nasal secretion would have to be sent to the CDC for actual testing, which is no longer being done.Either way you went to the doctor and got bronchitis, which hopefully is being treated and you'll heal up shortly. It's funny if you think about it people do get sick with things other than swine, everyone thinks every sniffle or ache is the flu..I am no different.IF you do not start healing within a few days then recheck with your DOctor.Feel better and just concentrate on healing.
